NUT Nutrition Software

Full Description:

NUT records what you eat and analyzes your meals for nutrient levels in terms of the "Daily Value" or DV which is the standard for food labeling in the US. The program uses the free food composition database from the USDA. This free nutritional analysis software was written for Unix systems (Slackware Linux), but can be compiled on just about any system with a C compiler. By experimenting with NUT, you can find the optimal level of the various nutrients and how to implement this with foods available to you.

Features of NUT include:

  • 7906 foods and 146 nutrients--the complete, latest USDA database
  • Foods easy to find and add to daily meals
  • Configurable for 1-19 meals per day and any dietary plan--including low carb, zone, low fat
  • Comprehensive meal analysis for any number of consecutive meals
  • Presents both easy-to-read percentage summaries and in-depth nutrient analysis, including Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids
  • Defaults to ounces or grams based on user input
  • Suggests foods based on current diet
  • Includes novel meal planning feature: you choose the food, NUT adjusts the quantities to your plan
  • Can easily create additional databases for other family members
  • Auto-transfer of successful dietary strategies from analysis screen to configuration settings
  • Allows recording of recipes and customary meals for fast data entry
  • Guesses recipes of packaged foods
  • Creates graphs of nutrient intake showing daily and monthly trends
  • Sorts foods richest in each of the 146 nutrients
  • Reveals which foods contribute most to user's nutrition
  • Runs on Linux and just about everything else that can compile a C program, and NUT has no dependencies on other programs. It runs fast and it's not huge.
  • The price is right--it's free! And you can read and modify the source code.

gnuplot

Full Description:

Gnuplot is a portable command-line driven interactive data and function plotting utility that supports lots of output formats, including drivers for many printers, (La)TeX, (x)fig, Postscript and so on. It was originally created to allow scientists and students to visualize mathematical functions and data interactively, but has grown to support many non-interactive uses such as web scripting. It is also used as a plotting engine by third-party applications like Octave. Gnuplot supports many types of plots in either 2D and 3D. It can draw using lines, points, boxes, contours, vector fields, surfaces and various associated text. It also supports various specialized plot types.

Numpty Physics

Full Description:

Harness gravity with your crayon and set about creating blocks, ramps, levers, pulleys and whatever else you fancy to get the little red thing to the little yellow thing. Numpty Physics includes a built-in editor so that you may build (and submit) your own levels.

GLE

Full Description:

GLE (Graphics Layout Engine) is a graphics scripting language designed for creating publication quality figures (e.g., a chart, plot, graph or diagram). GLE supports various chart types (including function plot, histogram, bar chart, scatter plot, contour plot, color map and surface plot) through a simple but flexible set of graphing commands. More complex output can be created by relying on GLE's scripting language which is full featured with subroutines, variables and logic control. GLE relies on LaTeX for text output and supports mathematical formulea in graphs and figures. GLE's output formats include EPS, PS, PDF, JPEG and PNG. GLE is licenced under the BSD license. QGLE, the GLE user interface, is licenced under the GPL license.

The application can be used via command line or via GUI interface.
